Hey everyone!
I am currently a senior at SJSU working towards a B.A. in communication studies with a minor in business. Like most of you, I have switched majors a couple times in the past four years but decided on communication studies because it didn't completely bore me to death like the business major did but it is applicable to a wider range of careers than an art degree.
I decided to take a couple of online classes this semester because I took org. comm over the summer online and really like how it was set up and how straight forward it was. Like this class, we had to set up a blog and post about various topics from the book. I decided on this class specifically because not only does it address theory and research, but also because I am interested in learning more about how our surroundings effect how we interact/communication interpersonally as well as on a larger scale.
Having taken quite a few communication classes in the past few years I would have to say that Performance Communication has been my favorite class so far. Maybe it's because I secretly want to be an actress some day or maybe it's because I had Jake (professor Simmons) as my teacher for that class but that is what got me really hooked on comm studies. If you get the chance, I highly recommend you take some sort of performance communication class just because it is communication in such a different form from the rest.
I look forward to reading all of your blog posts and hopefully I will write something you find insightful or worthwhile!

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI have heard great things about Dr. Jake Simmons. It's a shame that he is no longer at San Jose State.
If you like Performance Studies or any theatre related fields of Comm, I would suggest for you to take Dr. Spangler.
In RTVF, if you want to take film studies classes (since your interested in acting), I would also suggest Drew Todd. He teaches RTVF 188 (Alternative Cinema), which is an upper division GE class, and RTVF 10 (The Art of Film), which is a lower GE class.
I know you said you are a current senior, but if you still need any GE's or have room for any fun classes you want to take, I figure you may be interested in these.
Good luck finishing out your B.A.!
